The highpoint of my 1998 trip was riding the Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved through road in North America at 12,000 feet. That day four years ago was overcast, cold and rainy, but today was brilliant sunshine. I took another photograph in almost the same place I had parked the first time.

Big Horn Sheep not bothered by tourists |
A Big Horn Sheep was working on a small patch of grass in the parking lot, oblivious to tourists taking pictures and passing back and forth to the restrooms. A lady who claimed to be a regular visitor exclaimed that in all her years she had never seen such a sight. I talked to the Big Fellow sweetly as he ambled to within arms reach of me. A large golden eye studied me with indifference and then he casually walked away to smell a mini-van before returning up the mountain to his companion observing the scene guardedly from a distance.

Forest fires plagued Colorado and closed some roads |
Forest fires were raging in Colorado in 2002. We had to take detours and change our route back to Houston because of them, but not before taking in one more site and creating a new highpoint for us both on Mount Evans.
