National Cycle's Neutron Star

V-Max Powered Yamaha Royal Star

Motorcycle Cruiser magazine, August 2001

If you ride a metric cruiser and feel left out of the biker scene because you are not on a Harley, get yourself a subscription to Motorcycle Cruiser.  It's the magazine for the rest of us.  Of particular interest are the features on custom metric cruisers.  A good example is the National Cycle Neutron Star, a Yamaha Royal Star with a V-Max engine shoehorned into it.

National Cycle is best known for their windshields and fairings, but this project went far beyond that.  Two stock Royal Stars were used for the project.  The V-Max motor fit in the Royal Star stock motor mounts but the carburetors would not fit due to the differences in the cylinder heads.  The ignition control unit was also a major problem.  Arrow exhaust had to fabricate an entire new exhaust system from scratch.  To get all the details and read the original article, click on the thumbnails below.
